The Surprising cure to Business failure!

Have you been there? I’m sure we all have.

The all too familiar light bulb moment pops up in our mind from nowhere.
You want to start a business.

And with unbridled enthusiasm you want to share your talents and skills to the world. Suddenly boom! Crash! Something happens.

And you start getting that queasy feeling inside the walls of your stomach.
Could it be from last night’s re-heated dinner? Somehow I don't think so. So instead of getting closer to your dreams you start seeing nightmares in the form of not one , but two or three unforeseen obstacles.

Meaning you struggle to get things happening. And you lose your energy, your passion, and your desire to succeed. Suddenly you hit a road bump, and grind to a halt.

It’s almost feels like it’s Game! Set and match!

Worse still those little voices inside your head keep whispering “it’s now time to give up”. You know what if you love what you do there’s always going to be days when you want to throw in the towel.

Trick is not to listen those little inner voices because your next success could be just around the corner.

Truth is ... whilst it’s tempting to throw in the towel , it’s far more satisfying when you push through those walls of resistance and make that breakthrough.

P.S Running a Business is not a bright shiny object pastime

Remarkable Success Story + Bamboo Tree

Have you heard of the Bamboo Story.

The story goes like this......

You take a little seed. You plant it, you water it , you fertilise it.

After a whole year nothing happens.

The second year you water it and fertilize it, and nothing happens.

The third year you water it and fertilize it, and still nothing happens. How discouraging this becomes!

By this stage you haven’t even seen a twig , bud , or anything.

Certainly by now it would be much easier to have given up. But somewhere deep down inside a little voice tells you to keep nurturing the plant.

It's well into the fifth year now and you still continue to keep watering and fertilising the seed without giving up.

But lo and behold after the fifth year, the Chinese bamboo tree sprouts and grows NINETY FEET IN SIX WEEKS!

Life is very much like the growing process of the Chinese bamboo tree.

Quite often life is discouraging. And when it seems all is lost we become overcome with fear which leads to that one dreaded word “Give up”.

Worse still.... it  becomes more disheartening when you do everything right and watch others succeed with less talent or knowledge.

The true sign of resilience is to look beyond where you are now.

And keep growing your crop.

Whether it's 1 ...  2 ... years or 3 years down the track

Simple fact.... we all like different results with the same effort but TRUE success takes hard work & great attention to detail.

Why am I recounting the Bamboo story?

Because it's taken me about 2 years to see just tiny results from my efforts.

There were times I couldn't visualise any progress. But I kept going.

I know it's not easy.

But deep down inside I believe you too can achieve the same.

And when you do enough of it everyday rewards will await you.

1% at a time.

Till suddenly........

you sprout up like a Bamboo TREE!

Do you suffer from habitual paralysis?

There is an old saying ,don’t fix it if ain’t  broke.

For most it's far easier to carry on doing the same thing over and over.

Even if there is a better way , we resist.

Ultimately that's the way our brains are hardwired.

We are creatures of habit. Some are good - some are bad.

Why change something that’s been done the same way for years.

Case example when the Australian government introduced the $2 coin back in 1989 it created such backlash.

Eventually we all got used to it.

Truth is..

we don’t need to invest our time anticipating the next disaster

the emotional overload is not worth it.

Most of all our best work is done when we give our minds plenty of space.

Oh no My wife uttered these 3 words again….

Lately…..
I’ve had  some of the worst  days of my life.

Things had just gone from bad to worse
and then from worse to a total disaster...

It was bad enough being made redundant once but who would of thought of twice in the space of just 2 months.

So rather than blame the economy like most people do I’ve reassessed things…

  1. I’ve acknowledged that  working for others is not what I’m best at.
  2. There is always a Silver lining

So my wife sat me down and said Carlo it might be time for you to "GET A REAL JOB!"

Well I agree with her that’s the obvious solution to this dire predicament.

But I knew I could fix this.

Fast....

So I figured, who can I ask for some guidance?

I turned to a good friend BIG Al Connolly. Go here to check out his profile

Happens that Allan has been voted 3 times as the most influential Small Business person in Perth.

And within a blink of an eye I was chatting to a potentially new client.

The lesson here today is never under estimate the power of association.

So I’ll never stop giving up on my dreams so I encourage you to do the same.

Sometimes we think we fail in life and in business. But as famous Motivational speaker Denis Waitley once said we can turn failure into fertiliser.

Remarkable turrnaround.. after shocking trip to the VET

Have you been there? when you are faced to make a gut wrenching decision.

Well in a nutshell this story is a triumph over tragedy.

Still gives me goose bumps when I cast my mind back to this anxious moment. Even though it happened in May 2013 it still feels like yesterday.

For about 3 days our dog Holly was in so much pain that the very act of walking was proving uncomfortable. That Sunday night I dropped her off, to the 24 hour Vet hospital hoping for a miraculous recovery… but instead it proved to be a nightmare.

Overnight tests weren’t promising to say the least which left us in the dark as to what to do next. The shocking news was that unless we spent an exorbitant amount of money like $8000 she would be put down.

Fast forward the next day and we were running out of time to make a vital decision. So courageously my wife Silvana whisked poor Holly away from that place to get a 2nd opinion.

Luckily she managed to get an immediate appointment with our trusted Vet.

The vet sensed it was do-or die situation so immediately we rushed off to the ultrasound clinic for a proper diagnosis.

Thankfully they discovered the problem. An Apricot pip was found in her intestine! How on earth did she manage to swallow that? What a stroke of luck – we are now in heaven!

The best part is 2 little girls were the happiest kids in the world.

Unravelling Perfection

You can have your ducks lined up.

Hoping everything will go to plan.

It will make our life and business more easier if everything worked out.

More often though most Entrepreneurs are in turmoil when they hit a dead end.

This is the tug of war that plays out in our mind.

The tighter we hang on to our perfectionist ideals

the more we lose traction.

And lose sight of the road ahead.

Nothing is ever perfect. or needs to be.

But the mere fact you have an intention means you have begun.

What's your goal for the remainder of  2017?

Knowing is the not the same as understanding!

If it’s ok with you I dare explain the difference.

So here goes.

You can have knowledge about a particular business skill or anything else for that matter.

But understanding is where the rubber hits the road.

Case in point…. Everyone knows that Facebook Advertising is a powerful medium.

But understanding tells, you  are waay… better off paying an expert to do the Marketing for you.

Why?

Because logically you are never going to do it as effectively as they are.

Obviously its natural to want to save moolah doing it yourself .

Truth is …. you still have to be mindful to pick the right one.

That’s where research comes into play.

Kinda reminds me of Copywriting too.

There is as much research involved than actually writing, and coming up with the BIG IDEA.

After all, just because you think you can.

Doesn’t mean you can.

Pep talk over

Have a great day
